Here is a simple spiritual exercise the great Christian mystic Teresa of Avila recommended. Likewise, you can use another person, other than Jesus. Anyone, in fact, that inspires you to faith and spiritual growth can be chosen.
Imagine you see Jesus standing before you ... He is looking at you ... Notice him looking at you ...

Teresa of Avila had a Sister who did this form of meditation. She would do this for hours at a time. But she always felt only aridity in her Prayer. When asked what she did in Prayer, she said, "I just allow myself to be loved."

I encourage you to try the above meditation. I urge you to go in with the heart-disposition, "I'm going to just let myself be Loved."
We are Islands in the Stream of Life, here to Make Love, we're all naturally Lovers, and there are many ways to Make Love... In whatever form, it is the only Real Thing... and there can never be anything wrong with True Love...
